A Merry Christmas and A Happy Birthday to Chris

We had a wonderful Christmas! It is so much fun to watch my sweet kids enjoy the Christmas spirit. Christmas gets better and better as they grow!

We also got some snow here! We tried to go to the mountain, but the roads were so icy we ended up near the bottom of the mountain. Not much snow (there was actually more at the house), but it was still fun to go. Even Grandad came to play! We also built a tiny sorta scary snowman!

Also Chris turned 30!!! His parents came to visit and we had a great time. As you can see, Deano won't leave Dad's lap!

Christmas Programs

Every Christmas brings lots of programs, so I thought I would share a few pictures. Kiley had a dance recital and her school program, and Ryan's preschool did a cute little program. They did so well in all of their programs. We laughed at how crazy Ryan is but that's why we love him. He even yelled in the middle of the program, "Hey Mom! Clap!" He's too funny. Kiley is the exact opposite; she is so serious about what she is doing. I love how different they are.

Ryan and Hanna Layton. They are so cute!
He calls her his Hanna Montana!

Husband Tag...
1. How long did you date before you got married? 3 1/2 months. Which we both swore would never happen, but when you know, you know.

2. How long have you been married? 7 1/2 years!

3. What does he do that surprises you? I love days when he calls me out of the blue just to say he loves me.

4. What is his best feature? His dimples! I love them. Oh, he's also got one nice tush, but we won't go into that.

5. What is his best quality? He is so kind. I have never seen him drive by a broken vehicle without helping or not give his change to the homeless. He is also very trusting in Heavenly Father.

6. Does he have a nickname for you? He always calls me gorgeous. One day, he and Marco are riding in the truck, and Chris says, "I love you gorgeous." Marco thought that it was some spanish word meaning Fatso! So, Chris explained, but it still bugs Marco to hear it.

7. What is his favorite color? He says black if Kiley asks. She's big on favorite things.

8. What is his favorite animal? Again, Kiley's asked this one to which he replies tiger. It definately isn't dogs or birds right now.
9. What is his favorite food? He loves Italian food, but right now he is in love with my egg rolls. He wanted me to take them to Thanksgiving!

10. What is his favorite sport? Motocross if you count that.

11. When and where did you first kiss? January 14, 2001 at his house! Good kisser!

12. Favorite thing to do as a couple? We like watching movies and reading together. We also both like staying up late talking about anything; however, the next day we aren't so thrilled with ourselves.

13. Do you have any children? The best 4 kids in the world.

14. Does he have a hidden talent? He has a great singing voice and he is super smart.

15. How old is he? Almost 30, and I remind him of it daily.

16. Who said 'I love you' first? He did, and I'm so very glad he did.

17. What is his favorite music? He loves rock and Christmas music. He says he doesn't like country, but he knows more songs than I do.

18. Do you think he will read this? Nope. He's not a blogger. If he ever does, I love you Chris! Thanks for always supporting and loving me. You are so good to me, and I love you so much! Can't wait for eternity.
P.S. Here' s some pictures of him being the great dad he is as he runs the kids up and down the yard in a wagon and pictures of the wonderful job he did on the Christmas lights. We've had complements on how perfect they are!

Marco

As many of you know, Friday, 11/21, around noon, Chris's friend Marco suffered a brain hemorrhage (a cerebral aneurysm that burst). He had been outside working on the playhouse and shed he is building. He reached down to pick up some shingles, and complained to Chris of a sudden headache. Chris was helping him roof the shed. Chris and Carmen, Marco's wife, had Marco lay down, and as his condition did not improve, they called 911. Marco was taken to the Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center, then flown to the Barrow Institute in Phoenix.

So far, it has been a miracle that Marco is doing as well as he is, but there is still progress to be made. I write this post for two reasons. First, I ask that people reading this blog will think of this kind man and his family in their prayers. Second, I think it's a reminder of what's really important in life and how fragile it can be.

Chris's company started a blog for Marco if you are interested in following his progress. The address is, www.miraclemarco.blogspot.com. Thanks for any prayers that come to him, his wife, and his two sweet daughters.

Lately, because of some conversations with other people, I've been thinking about life, my testimony, and the things that happen along the way to get you where you are. I remember often thinking that my life was rougher than normal, and wishing that I had some of the lives of my friends. Now, I am so grateful for the lessons my life taught me, how it shaped me, and how it changed me. I don't believe any of this is an accident. We all experienced trials and successes because it would make us who we are.
I am grateful for a religion that has deeply blessed me throughout my life. Without the knowledge and belief in a Heavenly Father and a Savior who love me, I would be lost. I don't have a knowledge of the hows and whys of the gospel, but I have a testimony of the principals of the gospel and know they are true and there. I want more than anything to watch my sweet children grow up faithful and diligent. I wish there was some magical way to ensure that, but I think it takes faith and diligence (and maybe the Palmer secret. Just kidding). A non-member friend and I were talking, and she mentioned the obviousness of people who preach their religion but fail to practice it; I hope to never be one of those people. I do not want myself nor my children to do any more than live the gospel we are taught, and I admire people who are genuine people. They are few and far between, but they are there. Many of you are these people, and I am grateful for your example.
I think that life is beautiful and hard. I am grateful to go through it with a husband who is kind, loving, and a leader by example. I am grateful for all of the blessings and trials I have been given. I am so grateful for four beautiful children. I find it humbling and frustrating to be a mother, but I also find it truly rewarding. I believe, I understand love when I look at them. They are my happiness. I love them and want nothing more than their happiness.
I am grateful for a life that has taught me how to love, stand up for what I believe in, not be oblivious to how it really is, and most importantly, a life that has taught me that this life just isn't perfect, but it's still wonderful.
I know this is a random post, but I felt it important to use this sort of journaling to remind myself of a few things. I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. My mom, Chris, the kids and I are going to our friends' Amy and Jacob's house. She is the best hostess in the world! When I asked Chris if he wanted to go there, he replied, "Yes, she has the best food!" She really does! Have a great Thanksgiving!

The Great Pumpkin

IT'S A . . .

This is all we posted in our text, and for everyone that lives here, we carved a pumpkin letting them know. So here's the pumpkin.

We are very excited for this beautiful boy! I can't believe I'm having ANOTHER BOY, but I am so grateful he is healthy! Everything looked perfect - from the heart to the kidneys. I am so blessed! Kiley cried for awhile, but quickly got over it when she realized how spoiled she will always be. She will make the best big sister in the world! She already is. Ryan thinks it's great and said, "Good, we can all watch movies together." Bryson cried, but I think it was just a reaction to Kiley's reaction. I'm not sure what I will do with three boys, and Chris really isn't sure what he will do, but I know one day I will be so proud to watch them grow up together as good friends, hold the priesthood, go on missions, and be great husbands and fathers for their own families. I look forward to easier teenage years, lots of food being eaten, and crazy boys that will always leave me tired and happy. Thank heaven for little boys.

Random thoughts

Those of you who look at this post will probably be thinking, "Wow, she is one moody pregnant lady!" But, at the sake of that, I am posting anyway. Here are a few things on my mind lately.

1. You know those bumper stickers that say, "Mean People Suck." Well, I am all for that saying. I guess I'm not talking about mean people as much as people who go around intentionally hurting other people's feeling or making other people feel bad. I'm not sure the reasons for this behavior, and I'm sure it varies from person to person, but I think it's rude. Chris calls these people "Choppers." They are the people that will make you feel small and stupid until they feel better than or above you. Ya, well, I don't like these people. They are worse than "One Uppers" as Chris says, who always top what you say. I think their needs to be classes on etiquette and proper behavior towards people. I know that I sometimes say or do things to hurt or offend someone, but I don't do it intentionally. I don't wake up and think, "Hmm, who can I be rude to today?" Anyway, I want to give a shout out to my good friends who don't do this. I want to thank all those who are the exact opposite of what I'm discussing, you know, the people who always try to make others happy. It doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated.

2. What happens after you have three kids? Well, let me show you a little picture for demonstration. In this picture, my third child is standing on the table eating Oreos. Sure, we say, "Get down." But, do we mean it? Nope. We just go on. Kiley would have NEVER been allowed to do this. I was saying this morning, I feel almost bad for her. The first child has so much put on them and expected of them. The more children you have the more you realize it isn't the biggest deal and move to something else. I always swore, all my kids would have the same rules/same expectations, but it just didn't happen. In my defense Kiley has the best manners and is the most well behaved, but Ryan isn't badly behaved either. The verdict is still out on Bryson's manners; I hope he learns them sometime.

3. I am scared out of my mind about the economy. I have prayed and cried, and I know all I can do is trust all will be fine, but I am really nervous. I try to listen to some of the news and keep up on what's going on, but I can't stand the thoughts it creates. I never want my kids to go without. I don't mean going without the nicest things, I mean going without the necessities. I am a natural "what ifer", and I don't do well with the unknown.
4. I can hardly wait for my sonogram. Ki and I are counting down the days. It's true, all I want is a healthy baby. A girl would even things out, but my boys are lots of fun. Someone asked to see a picture of me growing bigger. So here it is, but it comes with a disclaimer: Yes, I am huge this time! I swear, I took the pregnancy test and put my maternity clothes on. Want something really depressing, most of my maternity pants didn't even fit! Oh well, this is my last child, and I'm not going to worry about it. I really am just thankful to carry babies, and since this is my last one, I want to enjoy it.

Bad Blogger

Lately, I'm not the most faithful blogger. So, here's a quick update on us. Everyone has been well for a couple weeks now! Hooray! I had parent teacher conference last week, and Kiley got rave reviews! I am always so proud of her.
Nana and I took the kids for our traditional pumpkin patch trip. I love to watch them pick their very favorite pumpkin; they all have very different reasons. Kiley wanted a "perfect pumpkin." Ryan wanted one with a huge stem, and Deano liked the littlest ones. He thought it was great until he noticed the caterpillar crawling up his hand. He freaked! It was hilarious.

Only 10 days left to find out whether we are having a boy or girl! I am getting really excited. I just want a healthy baby. I've got a couple of ideas for names, but absolutely nothing set in stone. If you don't mind it being taken, I would love suggestions.

An Escape

Okay, so two more cases of strep and it's official: I've lost my mind. I am beginning to feel like a prisoner to my house. Don't get me wrong, I like being home, but really everything in moderation. There are days, I wake up and feel like I could cry from the start. My hope is that we are getting anything and everything now, so this winter will be super healthy.

In the midst of my mental breakdown, I have found a source of escape. In fact, I think it's becoming an obsession. For those of you who have already read the Twilight series this will come as no surprise. For those of you who haven't, you are really missing out. When I first heard of these books, I laughed at how stupid it sounded. Ooo, a bunch of stories about vampires! Then, my curiosity got the best of me and I caved. Now, I am in love. I want to be a vampire. I'm thinking about naming this baby Cullen if it's a boy (couldn't bring myself to name someone Edward, no matter how great he is)! I am almost done with the last book, and it has me so sad to see this come to a close. Chris started reading them with me and the obsession is spreading. We can't wait to get the kids in bed so we can read. I admit, he isn't into it as much as I am, but he is still trading sleep for these darn books; that right there says something. If you haven't read them. Go buy the first one and read it to at least the middle; I guarantee you'll be hooked.

A great invention

Okay, if we don't all get well soon I am going into a deep depression and no one will hear from me for a while. Seriously, I am loosing my mind. Last week Ryan and I got the worst head cold in the world. No sleep for 3 nights, coughing ALL the time, sinus headaches, it was awful! Now, this week is turning into much of the same. I came down with another stupid stomach bug! Not a severe but still miserable. Plus, my head cold won't leave! Then Sunday, Kiley missed the Primary program for a good battle with strep!

Well, in the midst of my whining, Amy recommended I use a neti pot to relieve some of the sinus pressure. It has been a life saver. I thought about posting pictures until I saw all the stuff that comes out. You have to see it to believe it, and it's not the weak in stomach. In case you're interested, here's a picture of the neti pot.

I'm back. . . well for now.

Hey, I have become a terrible blogger. I am so sick lately that I find it hard to function let alone blog, but here's a quick update. . .

I have been so sick. Then, to top it all off the whole family came down with the stomach flu! Well, by the time it got to me, it did me in. I couldn't quit throwing up. After an afternoon of IV fluids, I was still so sick, so I ended up in the hospital for a night. I want to give a great big thanks to Hope, Amy, MaryAnn, and Suzanna for all of their help. I am feeling better now. The stomach bug is gone but the prego nausea is not. I'm hoping it won't be too much longer. Usually I recover by 14 weeks; I'm 12 today, so only 2 more.

The kids are doing well. Ryan is having a hard time. Ki is gone all day, Mommy just throws up all day, and Brysons tries to hit him in the head with whatever is in Bryson's hand (We are trying hard to break him of this). So, Ryan's world is being rocked and he is not exactly enjoying it.

Kiley is doing awesome in school. I talked to her teacher the other day and got a rave review about how smart and kind she is. She has a wonderful teacher, and it felt so good to hear such awesome comments. Lately, I don't know what I would do without that little girl. She is so smart, she listens so well, and she really is kind.

My wonderful husband and my mom also deserve a shout out. I feel so blessed to have so many wonderful people in this life, but I would be lost without these two.

Last, I won my first contest ever! Yay! I never win anything. I almost blew it because I've been so out of the loop, but thanks to Jenn at Girly Dos and my friend Amy, I won curlers! This may seem silly to some, but I am so pumped that I won anything! I mean I have zero luck, so this is great!

Life is good and hopefully I will once again become a faithful blogger. I am going to end with this tag from my sister-in-law.

All is well!

We had a sonogram yesterday, and everything looked great! We have a tiny person with a tiny beating heart! I was so excited and amazed. I am amazed at the technology advances in just the last seven years. The sonogram was so detailed! We could see arm buds, leg buds, everything. When I had an early sonogram with Kiley, it was a blurry bean with a heart beat! Even more amazing, Heavenly Father created all of this spectacular creation process. I stand in awe every time I see a new baby! The fact that a person is suddenly where there once was no one is amazing! We are 8 weeks along, and it all looks great so far! I feel so blessed!

Those of you who know me well, you know I am an anxious worrier, and lately I keep thinking of this song that Amber Richards (Stalder) and her mom sang at my baptism. I found it in the playlists, and I just love it. I am so grateful for a Heavenly Father who listens and loves me.

Lots of different things

First, we'll start with the first day of school. Kiley loved it; she has a wonderful teacher and great friends in her class. She was up at the crack of dawn and ready to go. I can't believe how old she's getting. It really breaks my heart.

Ryan started preschool, and he also loved it. He has the same teacher Kiley had, and she's wonderful. His best buddy, Josh, is in his class so Ryan's world is terrific after the first week of school.

Bryson was sad to see both of them go. He went and laid in Ryan's bed; it was so sad.

Also, we would like to say goodbye to our dog. I don't have a picture of him to post, but he died Saturday night. He was apparently hit by a car. If anyone has advice about how to console a very sad four year old who misses his dog, please let me know.

Last, I am so sick. My mother-in-law is here for a few days to help me, and I am so grateful for her and my mom. I literally feel like I can't get ready, I can't cook dinner, I can't even think without feeling like throwing up. I am grateful to feel like this, but I am also miserable. I'll let everyone know how far we are and if everything is okay after our sonogram later in the week. If anyone has any tips on feeling better, let me know. I've tried ginger, tea, Saltines, Zofran, and I'm now on Phenergan (? spelling). This medicine wards off the throwing up but not the nausea, and I can only take 1/4 and 1/2 doses at a time because it knocks me out! Yuck! Like I said, I know it's a good sign, so I'm just trying to think of it that way.

News

Here's a question:

What do the following things have in common?

  • Laying on the couch a lot
  • Can't eat
  • Throwing up
  • Crying for no apparent reason
  • Can't stand the smell of Anything!
  • Never getting ready
  • Having ZERO patience
  • Feeling so thankful to be feeling this way

I’m tired, hungry, SICK, and sad.
Today, I could start crying or get really mad.
I’m getting fatter and fatter as if by the day.
And, if you know what is best, you’ll stay out of my way.
I sent my son to a friend's not sure what he wore.
Yet, still when I think about it, I think one more.
One more blessing would be so great,
And I feel like the news can no longer wait.
Yep, you guessed it, it’s baby number four!
Another sweet person to love and adore.
It looks like, I’m already 6 or 7 weeks along.
Hopefully, everything is growing healthy and strong.
I’m excited, worried, blessed, and in love
Today, I am grateful for my gift from above.

We didn't know when or how to tell everyone; howver, everyone is quickly catching on, so here it is. We are, of course, scared because of the last miscarriage, but we are getting a sonogram done in a week and a half, and hopefully everything will be well. I am very sick which is a great sign, and Chris says I am DEFINITELY having pregnancy mood swings (I hope he's blessed for putting up with me through all these babies). This new little blessing should be here at the end of March or first of April. I couldn't feel more blessed! Leave a post or call when you see this so we know who knows.

What do you think?

I've been watching HGTV's Design Star. It's a competition where people compete to design the best rooms. One of the finalists, Jen, painted this really cool leaf design in one of her rooms. I loved it, so here it is. The first picture is Jen's design, the rest are my recreations on my own wall. Let me know what you think. I was really excited to try something different. I feel like I live in beige land, so this was a quick easy was to change it up.

24th of July in 2 Places!

Chris and I were able to be here for the 24th festivities at the football field, but we also made a surprise trip to Snowflake. For some reason, the unplanned trips always turn out to be the funnest. At 8:00pm on Friday night, we decided to head up there. We only told my sister-in-law, TJ, we were coming. We left at 9:00 and were there a little after midnight. My mother-in-law was so surprised. We stayed up talking, got up early, went to their parade, ate lunch, Chris and the kids rode 4-wheelers, and we came home. It was fast but fun. The kids loved seeing all of their cousins, and Bryson was hilarious. I think he knows how cute he is. Thanks TJ for taking all the pictures. (My camera could not withstand Bryson EATING the lens.)

How Old Am I?

Okay, sorry I post so much about my kids, but they're funnier than me. So, we're walking in Wal-Mart yesterday, and I'm looking for Children's Tylenol, and this is the discussion I had with my kids.

Kiley: "Awesome, they have this drink in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. It looks yummy, and I think it's healthy. Is it healthy mom?"

I look over at the stacked Ensure boxes.

Me: "Yes, it's healthy, but we don't need any. It's for old people."

Kiley: "Then you should get some."

Me: "I'm not old!"

Ryan: "Yes sir Mommy. You're old and we're new, so you that drink is for you."

It was so funny to hear him say new instead of young and not so funny that they were completely serious about me being old. I guess, in their eyes, I am. After all, they're a lot "newer" than me.

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Tonight we had an interesting talk with Kiley. Yep, you guessed it we had "the talk." She wanted to know where babies come from, and up till now, we have told her that when a man and woman get married, they pray for a baby, and Heavenly Father sends one if they're ready. This answer was apparently insufficient for a six year old. She wanted to know how He, "just sent them?" I did my best to explain it as rationally as I could. I explained that Heavenly Father does play a huge role, but it is also part of the mom and dad's role. I told her that it involved "special parts," and I reminded her of how sacred this experience was and told her this is why people should be married. I said "um" about 50 thousand times, but all in all I think it came out okay. She was very mature about the whole thing. She listened, giggled a little, asked too many questions, but I think she really understood. Ryan, on the other hand, was listening the whole time with a strange grossed out look. I think this is a touchy subject. I didn't want to wait until they already knew all the wrong things, but I also didn't want to be to graphic. Chris and I reminisced about how we were told and had some laughs. I said that I could borrow a book from a friend of mine, but my mom said her parents used a book, and it horrified her. If any of you have any suggestions for future questions, please post them, and good luck to any one getting ready for this interesting experience.

My Friends

This was on my friend MaryAnn's blog.. it is so fun!

When did you first meet the 1st person on your list? Amy is the sister of my high school best friend, Amber. She is so fun and always has been. I think the first time I met her was at my friend's birthday party. She was the cool older sister everyone wanted to hang out with. If it wasn't at the birthday party I met her, it was when I was hanging out with Amber one day and she took me for a ride in her pinto while Ace of Base was blarring! As I think about that I can actually hear the songs! Scary!

What do you like about the third person on your list's blog? Kooliana was in the same grade in high school but in a different town. She was always so cute and happy all the time. I haven't been around her in awhile, but judging from her blog, she is a great mom and still always happy.

What do you like best about the 5th and 6th people on your list? Emily is 5th and she is wonderful. I don't think I have ever hear her say a bad thing about anyone in her life. She is expecting her first child, and everyone who knows her is thrilled because she will make such a great mom.
Britany is 6th on my list. I went to high school with her and she was always in style. It is no wonder she went to school for cosmotology. She's beautiful and a great mom to her cutie pie little boy.

What impresses you about the 11th and 22nd people on your list? The 11th person on my list is Gordon and Nicole. Gordon and Chris were friends in school. Gordon lived with Chris when he and I met, and I was always impressed by how spiritual he was. He also has the biggest smile in the world. I am impressed with Nicole just for looking so good even after having a baby. Way to go girl!
The 22nd person on my list is my mother-in-laws side of the family. They are all such sweet terrific people. Chris's grandpa passed away a few years ago, but Chris still looks up to the example this man set. Chris's grandma is awesome. She raised great kids and has a great attitude.
Oops, the 22nd person is actually Marisa. I know her because we went to school together. She was always so outgoing and friends with anyone.

What is a memory you have with the 23rd person on your list?
The 23rd person on the list was my best friend in high school. We went everywhere together and had a lot of fun. Her and Deanne were the ones who took the missionary disscussions with me. Those are of course fond memories for me. I was grateful the first time I met with the missionaries as I could have been so embarrased by my missing piece of eyebrow. Let's go back to the night before, I thought it might be easier to shave my eyebrows rather than pluck. This may have worked except that I sneezed and missed. Oops! My mom filled in the missing piece and I thought I was in the clear. Then, it rained. Yep, my missing piece came shining through. The sister missionaries were so sweet they didn't say anything until the very end, and Amber and Deanne never noticed!

Summer Time

Okay, here's a bunch of random updates about our summer.
The kids are in swim and just finished up baseball. I have never been so thankful for an activity being over as I am baseball. I'm glad they have the opportunity to play, but sometimes I wonder why I put us all through it. It is ridiculously hot outside; Ryan, no matter how many times you tell him, will always run to second after hitting the ball?; and Kiley hates to, "get all sweaty."

Swimming has been fun this year for all of us except Bryson. I decided to take a job as swim instructor. I thought it would be a great way to make a little extra money and really be a part of something the kids (mainly Kiley) really love. It worked out well, and other than having the grossest feeling hair in the world, I enjoyed doing it. Poor Bryson; however, did not like it. The combination of the heat and not being able to go to mom got to him. The crying got to me, so I quit. The kids are still in swim, I found a great replacement, and I promised I would sub anytime. Here's a picture of all of us leaving in the morning and Ryan with his tongue out as he swims.

Kiley also did a cheer camp with her friend Raynee, and she got her picture in the paper. She was so cute out there.

Picute from the paper below. Chris has been working on our yard, and it looks great. For once, we have grass. Chris and his friend, Marco, laid sod a couple of weeks ago, and it is taking root. I am amazed. We can't grow anything, so this feels like quite an accomplishment. Plus, the trees we planted earlier in the year are still alive! Hooray! I think by next year, we'll be ready to take on gardening. If anyone out there can give me some pointers, they would be greatly appreciated. I even have a plant in the bathroom that has been growing for months! I feel so Martha Stewartish.
We hope you are all having a great summer.

Family Visit

A couple of weekends ago; my dad, stepmom, grandma, and sisters came down. We haven't seen them for three years, so it was fun to see how much everyone has changed. I'm sure most of you didn't know I had sisters. Well, I have one stepsister, Ashley (Yes, you read that right), and one half-sister, Savannah. Here's a picture of the three of us. We took pictures that said Happy Father's Day Dad.
While they were here, we went to the mountains to ride 4-wheelers. Here's a picture of Chris and my dad trying to get the gas stove to light. We forgot matches, so these two crazy people decided to use jumper cables and rebar (Men are so weird). It worked we cooked great hot dogs and later found a box of matches in Chris's truck. Oh well, it made for a great memory.
I love this picture of Kiley. I took it while we were doing the Father's Day sign. She is actually pouting, but I really love the way she looks.

Here's a picture of Chris and the kids rolling down the hills at EA. It was fun except when rolling down hills, kids should try not to put feet and heads near each other. Ryan looked like a boxer for a few days. Here's Kiley, Savanna, and Ashley. Cute Girls.
